Royal visit to Canada (British Columbia and Yukon), 
24 September - 1 October 2016


 24 September 2016 - Arrival in Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, on a Royal Canadian Air Force plane. Transfer to British Columbia's Parliament Buildings to pay respects at Victoria's Cenotaph and unveil a new plaque paying tribute to the veterans of Canada's involvement in the Afghanistan conflict. Official welcome ceremonies, including a dance performed by the Lekwungen Traditional Dancers (Songhees Nation) and Esquimalt Singers and Dancers (Esquimalt Nation), military honours and speeches, followed by a  meeting with Governor General David Johnston and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at Government House.

25 September 2016 - Travelling by float plane from Victoria to Vancouver Harbour. In the Downtown East Side of Vancouver, meeting the team at Sheway, a charity that works with vulnerable mothers who are battling addiction and other issues. Then visit to the Immigration Services Society of British Columbia to meet the staff and volunteers who support recent migrants to Canada, including some of those who have fled the war in Syria.
Attending an event at Telus Park celebrating young leaders in Canadian arts, music, sport, charity, business, and film, then visiting the Kitsilano Coastguard Station in Vanier Park to learn more about the work of first responders. Lastly, departing the area by Coast Guard's hovercraft before flying back to Victoria for the evening.

 26 September 2016 - Travelling to the Great Bear Rainforest – the world's largest temperate rainforest, which has been named as Canada's commitment to The Queen's Commonwealth Canopy. Launched at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Malta in 2015, the QCC is a unique network of forest conversation initiatives, which involves all 53 countries of the Commonwealth. Ceremonial welcome by the Heiltsuk First Nations community, then a visit to the local community centre to attend a youth performance and a brief ceremony during which the rainforest was officially committed to The Queen's Commonwealth Canopy.

27 September 2016 - Arriving in Kelowna, a city in the Okanagan Valley, to visit the Okanagan campus of the University of British Columbia and meet students. Taking part in the BC Government's 'Taste of British Columbia' festival at Mission Hill Winery


 27 September 2016 - Arrival in Whitehorse, Yukon, and meeting with members of the Canadian Rangers, the military branch that provides a presence in the north of the country.
Watching a cultural performance at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre.

28 September 2016 - Visit to the MacBride Museum of Yukon History in Whitehorse.

28 September 2016 - Arrival in Carcross, a small town on the Klondike Highway, to meet with the local community and attend a traditional welcome ceremony by the Carcross/Tagish First Nation. Then on to the Single Track to Success, a mountain biking project on Montana Mountain.
New coat: wrap coat with ribbed sleeves in superfine alpaca mix in gull colour by Canadian brand Sentalernew boots: R. Soles "Virgi" cowgirl boots in chocolate suede (the same brand, but not the same style worn during the 2011 Canada tour, as confirmed by the designer); new earrings: large "Ulu" (a traditional all-purpose Inuit knife) earrings in bronze by Shelley MacDonald (ShelleySilversmith on Etsy), a jewellery designer based in Whitehorse; skinny jeans and unidentified black top (Daily Mail article here).


29 September 2016 - Back in Victoria, attending a children's party with military families in the grounds of Government House.


 30 September 2016 - Visiting Haida Gwaii, a remote archipelago on the northern coast of British Columbia that is home to the Haida Nation. Arrival at Skidegate and visit to the Haida Heritage Centre and Museum to see a cultural performance. Official opening of the new Haida Gwaii Hospital and Care Centre.

30 September 2016 - Fishing with young people from the Skidegate Youth Centre.
For the fishing trip, Kate removed the Smythe blazer and plait Alice band and added the following: new jumper: cashmere mix cable crew in ruby by Really Wild Clothingnew parka: wax parka in khaki green by Troy London; unidentified leopard print Alice band.  1 October 2016 - Back in Victoria, visit to the Cridge Centre for the Family, western Canada’s oldest registered non-profit society, then a meeting with families who have benefited from the services offered by the Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre; then touring Victoria Harbour aboard a tall ship piloted by a crew from the Sail and Life Training Society (SALTS), a charity using sailing to help build life skills.

A day of engagements in the Netherlands, 11 October 2016


90. 11 October 2016 - First official solo trip abroad: paying a courtesy call on His Majesty King Willem-Alexander at Villa Eikenhorst in The Hague. Then visiting the Mauritshuis to see the exhibition "At Home in Holland: Vermeer and his Contemporaries from the British Royal Collection". Later hosting a roundtable discussion at the British Ambassador's residence in The Hague on the themes of addiction, intervention and mental health with the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families and Action on Addiction, of which the Duchess is patron. Then travelling to Rotterdam to see Bouwkeet, the social makerspace of Bospolder-Tussendijken, a community-focussed initiative.
